Volunteer Fire District Structure Fire
Tuesday afternoon (11-11-2014) Cedar Rapids firefighters
were called to assist the West
Bertram Fire Department put out a fire on Mount Vernon Rd
SE. The fire was in a large steel building on
the same property as a house. The building housed construction
equipment as well as vehicles and other belongings.
Firefighters estimate there was about $100,000 worth of
damages. Nobody was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation (As of the date
of the original publication.)
Linn County police said a fire in a large steel building on
Mt. Vernon Road in Cedar Rapids rekindled overnight.
Cedar Rapids, West Bertram and Mt. Vernon firefighters
responded to the call at 3:30 a.m. on the 4000 block of Mt.
Vernon Rd. SE.
On Tuesday afternoon, firefighters responded to the first fire
at the same building
Mt. Vernon Road SE in Cedar Rapids has been reopened Tuesday
evening after being closed for a couple of hours due to a
large structure fire.
Motorists are now able to normally use Mt. Vernon Road SE near
R.L. Snitker Construction, which was on fire Tuesday
Traffic is being rerouted due to a large structure fire on Mt.
Vernon Road SE in Cedar Rapids as of Tuesday afternoon.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office said they were currently on
scene of a structure fire at 4303 Mt. Vernon Road SE at around
3:11 p.m. Tuesday.
That address is the location of R.L. Snitker Construction.
Deputies said they closed traffic at the location and rerouted
eastbound traffic to East Post Road SE and westbound traffic
to 44th St. SE.
