Volunteer Fire District We train to rescue you and
Our volunteers spend hundreds of
hours each year learning to properly operate equipment and safely work
in very dangerous situations and environments. The training takes
place in many forums - the 1st and 2nd Thursday evening meetings each
month, the Linn County Fire Fighter Association classes, the Kirkwood
fire school, the Iowa fire school at Ames and individual self-study.
In the years from the beginning of 1999 through the end of 2006, an
average of 830 man-hours of formal group training was held each
year. In comparison, the average yearly number of man-hours spent
at accidents, fires and other emergency situations was 260. The
ratio of training time to emergency event time is more than 3 to 1!
